I mentioned something like this on the Skype chat earlier, and it sounded like a pretty sound idea for a storyline. That, and it was added to by a few other chatters, so it's an amalgamation of bits and ideas added to it.
~~~~~ As we've seen in the trailer, civilian!Chat is very cold and serious-looking. Well, my headcanon is that Chat's family is of high power or importance in Paris, like maybe a business or something in relation to government. Chat's supposed to inherit the role of head of the family (and everything tied to it) once he comes of the right age, so he's been taught growing up to prepare for that day. Hence, he's taught to be business-like and serious when in public.
This goes against his actual personality, which is that of being outgoing and very fun-loving. So, when he's fighting crime or patrolling the town, hero!Chat has more fun because he's able to be less serious and play and joke around more, albeit still protecting the city.
Naturally, this contrasts with Marinette/Ladybug, who comes from more average (at first glance) family, is friendly and crushing on civil!Chat, yet is more serious and sees hero!Chat as a slacker for being more lax while working. ~~~~~
So, this headcanon kinda came up in a day, but I thought it seemed like a likely situation. Your thoughts, anyone?
I like that idea, class separation is a big part of French history, maybe Ladybug was the champion of the lower class, while Chat Noir was the hidden police of the upper class, or some lower class witch cursed a noble family with the bad luck sprite, and it started a legacy!
That makes a lot of sense. But what if he happened to find the ring instead of being from family?
That makes a lot of sense. But what if he happened to find the ring instead of being from family? You mean like finding or coming across the ring instead of it being passed down from the family? That's actually the situation involving the ring that I'd think would be more fitting. Chat finds the ring one day by chance at a store and buys it as a gift. Maybe even the ring is given to him, while actually being intended for someone else. Either way, out of curiosity befitting his real self, he puts the ring on but can't get it off, essentially being cursed with it and its power. This leads to the plotline where he has to kiss Ladybug to remove the ring. (As to why it has to be LB, I'm not sure. Is that a canon thing?)
I don't think he'd but it for himself -wouldn't it be too tacky for him?- I'd go more for being given to him and as you say the curiosity and the "curiosity killed the cat" quote hah.
Well, he wouldn't be buying it for himself, he'd probably buy it as a gift to a sister or his mother. But the curiosity bit would play out either way. :3
woah, interesting. This might blow holes in my "sprites take over their personality" theory.
I keep thinking that it might be possible, then again the cat sprite was bothering him with those kissy poses (that could go to what he needs to be free from the bad luck ring).
After all the entire Ladybug and Chat Noir thing is caused by the sprites... maybe they were living a cursed existence so they needed to release it. But to do that, the sprites would need human hosts/vessels. As other parties are involved, it gets more complicated. I have a feeling that a prerequisite to remove the curse is a kiss/love in both the sprites and humans involved? My own thoughts about Felix is that he inflicts bad luck on anyone in a certain radius of him after getting the ring. This is why he distances himself from Marinette. I think he actually likes her but is forced to watch her from afar as he fears that something really bad will happen to her. If Marinette is a transfer student, there might even be bad rumours about Felix that made him the loner he is... EDIT: The Japanese fandom on NicoNico are speculating that Chat Noir is a kaitou/phantom thief/gentleman thief. After all, France is where Arsene Lupin, the famous gentle thief comes from. IDK what he steals though
Chat Noir steals your heart, and Marinette is the first victim so far.
..Him being a gentleman thief? But he seems so goofy when he's in that outfit of his, especially around Ladybug. Or it could just be an act.
So much is possible at this point. Hmm..
The idea of Chat being a thief just doesn't seem quite right to me. What does he steal? I do like the idea of him being affluent. He doesn't seem to have much reason to steal. But at the same time, he doesn't strike me as the "superhero of the city" type that Ladybug assumes. So what DOES he do? (And I doubt he's initially a villain-type.)
Also, just wondering, where did the info about him needing to kiss someone to be free from the bad luck curse come from? And also, why is he having trouble getting a kiss in the first place? He's a good-looking kid. I'm sure most girls wouldn't be opposed to a little smooch.
Hmm, Chat Noir uh, steals hearts but the only one he wants to steal is Ladybug's and he's failing at doing so? I'm also rather puzzled by the phantom thief comments once I think more about it since I also can't see a motive for stealing. But yes, the real question is what is Chat Noir's role. He's not a hero like Ladybug but he's neither a villain like Mime and Pigeon Guy...
The kiss thing... I read it somewhere on Tumblr a few times and it kind of stuck with me? I can't tell what's canon or not sob. As for why he can't get the kiss, maybe it's Chat Noir that has to kiss, not Felix. Even if it's Felix, I have a headcanon that the bad luck he has keeps people away from him in the first place. There might even be bad rumours about him. Either that or he purposely distances himself from everyone.
