You're probably right about the vimeo thing, but it's like, ugggggh, the second I finally find a ladybug thumbnail after keeping tabs on that page for months they choose that moment to skip town >_< Also with regards to the whole Hawk Moth thing, I quickly came across this fine specimen: Behold the Death's-head Hawkmoth, so named for the skull-like marking on its back. It most famously appeared in this iconic image: I can see it now, the marketing department was like, "Butterflies make for pretty lame villains, pick something else!" And the writers are like "Oh, shit!" And then they google 'scary butterfly' and eventually find this. Or maybe one of them's a fan of silence of the lambs. They certainly picked the most evil looking thing they could find that still vaguely resembled a butterfly. But actually, if you read up on the lore associated with them it's very fitting. Apparently in France, they're considered an omen of death. (See here: mori-guild.guildlaunch.com/custom.php?page_id=77088&gid=192124§ion=custom) Seeing as Ladybug and Chat Noir both have powers primarily based around folkloric interpretations of their respective critters, it's very fitting for this guy to be called Hawk Moth. With regard to the licensing, you can still find articles where they talk about how Ladybug has been licensed in Korea and Brazil, (and the latter won't shut up about it) but I haven't found a single piece of news that suggests it has been picked up in the U.S. Maybe they're keeping it under wraps until later? I couldn't say. I don't really know what the usual time-table is for shows like these. Though, for all we know, that could be old footage they uploaded to vimeo and they're just trying to keep it all in one place for some reason or another. In conclusion:

Lo and behold, the second I talk about the odd silence regarding a U.S. release, news of one pops up! Zagtoon uploaded this to the news section of their website: "CREATED BY ZAGTOON, METHOD ANIMATION AND TOEI ANIMATION, BANDAI HAS ACQUIRED THE WORLDWIDE RIGHTS AS MASTER TOY FOR LADYBUG
ABOUT BANDAI PARTNERSHIP
PARIS -- 30 January, 2014 – Zagtoon is very proud to announce the deal with Bandaï America Inc., as the master toy of the unique new CGI TV series Ladybug (26 x 26min). The series is a co-production from French animation companies Zagtoon and Method Animation with Japan’s Toei Animation and has international partners such as SAM-G, AB International, Curlstone, SK Broadband, and its leading commissioner in France, TF1.
BANDAI is the third largest producer of toys in the world and the leading toy company in Japan. The company retains some of the most popular toy properties in the world. With Ladybug, Bandai plans to develop an amazing, globally-minded collection of dolls, role play, games and lifestyle products bringing to life the first new, universally-appealing, iconic super heroine in animation’s history. This adventure is possible today thanks to Jérémy Zag, who opened an active office and studio in Los Angeles to work closely with Bandai as a major partner Said Jacqueline Tordjman and Aton Soumache and. Jeremy Zag Opened a big studio in Glendale in order to manage all the Zag inc. Brands, and in order to create ZAG ANIMATION STUDIOS FILMS.
Ladybug follows the story of Marinette and Adrien, Parisian junior high school students with a big secret – they're superheroes! Using magical powers, they transform into the bickering duo Ladybug and Chat Noir. But neither knows the other’s true identity, so Marinette has no idea that her school crush, Adrien, is Chat Noir. And Chat Noir has no idea that his crush, Ladybug, is really Marinette! They have been chosen to save Paris from the mysterious evil villain Hawk Moth who wants their magical powers for himself. Marinette has to juggle her two identities: saving Paris as Ladybug and winning Adrien's heart as Marinette.
“ LadyBug is a superhero with an American look, with Japanese powers and we keep the european soul thanks to Paris as background for the show”, commented Jeremy Zag, president of Zagtoon. It’s the first time in animation there will be a superheroine, for and dedicated to girls. With a strong partner as Bandai, we are sure to have wonderful compelling products, totally in tune with the DNA of the series.”
ABOUT DISNEY PARTNERSHIP
PARIS -- 30 January, 2014 – Zagtoon and Method Animation are very proud to announce the deal with Disney Channel for the acquisition of the hot new CGI series Ladybug (26 x 26min). The series is a co-production from French animation companies Zagtoon and Method Animation with Japan’s Toei Animation and has international partners such as SAM-G, AB International, Curlstone, SK Broadband, and its leading commissioner in France, TF1. The deal was done by PGS Entertainment in co-distribution with AB International Distribution.
In addition to pay tv deal signed for France as a 2nd window after TF1, the Walt Disney company also acquired pay tv rights in Europe, Eastern Europe and Scandinavia and free-to-air rights in Spain, Germany, Russia and Turkey.
"Ladybug brings a unique twist to the superhero genre with a fresh and modern girl character who is in line with kids’ and teens’ lives today,” commented Jeremy Zag, president of Zagtoon. “The team that Ladybug forms with Adrien creates situations for a lot of comedy and action that viewers will embrace and identify with. The theatrical look of the show will connect with a more demanding audience, eager for this kind of breakout show."
“ LadyBug is a unique project which make possible to unite several powerful players and leaders in different. We set up a financing plan and an international coproduction with the idea that “this needs to be a very ambitious project”. It’s the first time that we have such an international project that goes from East to West, from Japan to the United States.” , said Aton Soumache, Method Animation CEO."- Wonder what the deal is with him trying to steal their powers? How would he go about that, and why would he want them if he can essentially create an army of super villains whenever he damn well pleases? The mysteries, how they thicken!
- "a superheroine, for and dedicated to girls" <3
- I mean, it's kind of presumptuous to say that it's the first, given how much this show owes to mahou shoujo, but i can't really think of any comicbook style superheroines who are the main character of their own tv show/franchise (not counting spinoffs)
- MIDDLE SCHOOL OR HIGH SCHOOL. PICK ONE ALREADY >_<

Alright, so here we have another example of Gloob giving us weird information. Here's the article: anmtv.xpg.uol.com.br/ladybug-bandai-inicia-licenciamento-de-produtos/and here's the translation: "While the Brazilian public eagerly awaits the debut of Ladybug, creation of French studio Thomas Astruc and co-produced by Toei Animation and Zagtoon in Gloob, Bandai already starts working on the licensing of anime products that include dolls, toiletries, games and others.
In the story a girl starts to combat villains during the night, thanks to the powers that she gains when using magic earrings. Called Marinette Cheng, her greatest villain is the unlucky Black Cat.
Besides Gloob, Disney acquired the rights to broadcast the series on pay TV for European countries. The series has also been bought by open TV channels from Spain, Germany, Russia and Turkey.
The launch takes place in September this year in Japan."
I'm not entirely convinced that anmtv isn't streaming from an alternate universe where zagtoon never switched to cgi, and also where they decided to make chat noir a villain? @_@ Like, seriously, they've said that in two articles now. Oh, but if you look at the comment section, it looks like they're finally catching onto the fact that it's been CG for a while now, because at no point did the press releases from this website ever mention it in their many articles on ladybug, .~. But it is kind of entertaining to behold. Also, say hi to our newest member :D

Not sure if this counts as an article, strictly speaking, but I noticed something while I was stalking zagtoon's poor, poor employees making my rounds. This time it's relates to writing. This person, who's worked on several shows like Fosters, PPG, and MLP, is apparently doing some writing for the english version of Ladybug. Which probably means that all the episodes have already been written and now they're just adapting them. On another note, Ms. Morrow seems to be well thought of in the MLP community, so hopefully it's a sign of some well written episodes eventually coming our way .

AB changed their description, it's a lot less detailed, (good thing we screenshoted the other one it > ) The description remains as grammatically correct as ever: "Paris has also its heroine! Marinette and Adrien are close friends the day, unknown team-mates the night, when they transform into superheroes: Ladybug and Chat Noir. Their mission: capture evil creatures led by butterfly, and save Paris! Marinette will always have to juggle her two identities with her goals: win Adrien's heart at school and stop the villains in the Night!"
They seem to have removed all references to the sprites and their sprite overlord. Maybe Someone decided the synopsis was too detailed, or maybe the funky names didn't test well and they're changing them. idk. That said, it still refers to Hawk Moth as Butterfly, and it still lists the broadcast date as early 2015, despite the fact that most every piece of news I've found in the last few months gives a date of late 2014. So, I'm inclined to think it was the former instead of the latter.

Found an interesting article, it's not about Ladybug in particular--though Ladybug is mentioned a couple times. Rather, it's about the current state of the French animation industry.

On a new and exciting episode of Gloob confuses us all. This article has a VERY interesting tidbit of information regarding the release date. I mean... if it's accurate. Because it seems this site couldn't do accurate press releases if its life depended on it, so take it with a grain of salt. It says the the 2015 air date applies to all the other places besides France and Japan where Ladybug is broadcasting, and that it will air in those two places during the original September of 2014 airdate. I'm not sure what to make of this. We haven't heard any word of who's broadcasting this in Japan, for one thing, but whatever. It does make some sense though, hari did say that if zagtoon could release it this year, they'd start releasing promotional content early in the summer. Well, it's early in the summer, and we've got a rather hefty piece of publicly available promotional content, with more likely on the way once the Las Vegas licensing expo for which the video was made actually gets underway. And all the articles that mentioned the 2015 date were about various other territories where Ladybug had been bought, and not France. So, I guess there's some (shaky) evidence that this will air in 2014, at least in France (and maybe Japan?), with other territories getting it in 2015. Take it with a grain of salt.

Forgot to mention this here. But this image surfaced in a recent article. As you can see... The old title's back! Although the article itself only refers to it as Lady bug. The article also claims that there are 39 episodes and that Chat Noir is a girl. Don't you just love all these super-ultra-accurate and unambiguously written articles going around? I know I do! Attempting to sift through this stuff and separate the relevant information from the inaccurate reporting is my idea of a great time. But seriously though, this little gaff was at least kind of funny XD.

Here's a really neat article. And on the google translate side of things, it says they're going to have web-episodes in 2DThe article also says, though, that it'll be coming out in France in september 2015, and it says at the bottom they got that information from Jeremy Zag himself... Oh, well. I have given up on keeping track of release dates @_@. Oh, and I was also going to do an analysis post on the recently released video. WHOOPS I FORGOT. I should have more free time this week though. So expect that soon-ish I guess. *Lazily links to the translation I posted on tumblr*
